Short on time?

Perhaps no one understands the busy schedule you keep. Sometimes there’s just not time to plan and execute a healthy meal. In that case, make what you throw together count nutritionally. Follow these 10 quick takes to get all the recommended fruits and vegetables you need each day.

1. Snack on dried fruit. Raisins and dried cranberries are great, too.

2. Instead of downing a soda, buy some pomegranate juice and enjoy the wholesome flavor.

3. Carry an apple in your purse or in the car – and eat it.

4. Keep applesauce in the nearest refrigerator. It’s a great snack and something nutritious to go with that not-so-healthy burger you may pick up. Forfeit the fries.

5. Scoop a kiwifruit or grapefruit for breakfast.

6. Take advantage of the “natural” bowl that cantaloupe can be. Cut one in half and fill a half with tuna salad or cottage cheese. That leaves you with another bowl for tomorrow!

7. Microwave vegetables and experiment with seasonings to add to them. There’s no need to wait for the stove to heat up.

8. At lunchtime, stop the car at the grocery store and take a trip around the salad bar. It has more healthful vegetables to make a salad than you’d ever stash at home.

9. Visit the fresh-cut section of the produce department and pick up cut fruits and vegetables. They may cost more than the uncut versions, but you’re more likely to eat them if you don’t have to deal with them.

10. Make a fruitful dessert. Simply mix grapes with low-fat or no-fat whipped cream.
