Four Trends In Cosmetic Products According To Consumer Insights

According to the latest studies of trends in the cosmetic industry, consumers increasingly take into account the healthy, ethical, and environmental aspects of the product or brand. They also bet on natural cosmetics and probiotics. This forces the industry to be in the process of continuous innovation and improvement, reformulating, and innovating.

Natural and sustainable cosmetics

Natural cosmetic products are those that contain ingredients obtained from natural sources, are free of chemicals or pesticides, and are perceived as healthier, better tolerated by the skin, produced under a greater ethical and ecological awareness, and include more sustainable raw materials and economical.

The reasons for these preferences are mainly aligned with the current values and concerns of an increasingly aware consumer. However, their price is a handicap when adding them to the shopping cart.

This trend has also been extended to the demand for hair hygiene products. Demand shampoos or masks without parabens, silicones, and value fruit aromas. As a consequence, natural, and even vegan, solutions have emerged, developed through sustainable processes.

Probiotic cosmetics

Probiotic products, in addition to being natural, offer high tolerance and, being conceived as healthy, are understood as the forefront of cosmetic innovation and are positioned in the consumer’s mind for their high effectiveness in protecting the skin and for their moisturizing capabilities.

K-Beauty cosmetics

Korean cosmetics have burst among the main trends in the field of cosmetics hand values, such as ease of use. It is positioned as a solution that offers a healthy skin appearance through light and refreshing textures. However, its ignorance by consumers makes it’s market penetration even lower.

Personalized cosmetics

We could say that the most significant trend of the moment is personalized cosmetics. It serves as a link between the rests of the trends. The consumer demands natural cosmetics, but also personalized à la carte and very adjusted to their own needs. For him, talking about personalized cosmetics is talking about highly effective, quality, and technologically innovative cosmetics, as well as being novel and unique.

Perfect Makeup For A First Date

For a first date it is advisable to follow these makeup tips:

  • Prepare the skin: to remove impurities and to make the skin look smooth and without blemishes, you can exfoliate two days before the appointment. It is also recommended to apply a mask to hydrate the face.
  • Base: you must choose a color similar to the skin tone to avoid the masking effect. It is best to spread the base with a brush, as this will result in a more uniform result. You have to be careful and blend the base down and towards the dark circles well so that the skin of the neck and face do not have different tones. It’s also important to choose a durable, sweat-resistant product.
  • Concealer: you have to use the most appropriate shade to hide dark circles, pimples.
  • Eyes: the best thing is to look for simplicity. Outline only the bottom or top edge of the lines, drawing a fine line of black or chocolate brown. Use a pencil instead of liquid eyeliner to make it look smoother. As for the shade, choose a light and discreet shade, such as peach, soft pink, or beige. If the appointment is at night, you can bet on a somewhat darker shade. You can also add a little highlighter to the tear and under the eyebrows to open your eyes.
  • Cheeks: To highlight the cheekbones and sweeten the face, apply blush in pink or peach. It is not convenient to use it in large quantities, but simply give a light touch to achieve a natural blush.
  • Eyelashes: Before applying the mask, use a curling iron to arch them and open your eyes. It is recommended not to abuse the mask and apply only one or two layers, always zigzag to avoid lumps.
  • Lips: it is not advisable to bet on lipstick of dark or red color since this color is too daring. In addition, strong lipsticks can stain the teeth, something that is not very aesthetic. It is best to bet on ‘nude’ tones, pinks, or glitters. Using a brush to apply the lipstick will last longer. When it comes to applying makeup, remember that you should only highlight one area of the face or lips or eyes. Therefore, if you wanted to highlight the look, try to be more subtle in the use of lipstick.

Makeup can be completed with a light and pleasant perfume, which is not too strong. Likewise, it is essential to have clean and well-groomed nails.

How laser and radiofrequency treatments rejuvenate your skin

laser and radiofrequency skin rejuvenation

One of the biggest aesthetic concerns that many people have is how to stop the signs of aging. While it isn’t uncommon for individuals to maintain a naturally youthful look into their thirties, most will start to notice a slight difference in appearance somewhere in their mid-twenties. This is because the body’s production of collagen and elastin gradually starts to slow as early as age 20.

As a result, one of the best ways to combat signs of aging is to take steps to encourage collagen and elastin within the skin. While some supplements and dietary changes may be able to help with this, laser and radiofrequency skin treatments are known to be effective at boosting collagen and improving a number of age-related skin concerns.

A noninvasive solution to aging

Laser and radiofrequency skin treatments are non-surgical methods for improving the quality of the skin – specifically skin texture, tone and elasticity. Most people feel that these treatments are virtually painless, producing a sensation of heat, but not much else. The procedures are also relatively quick, usually taking less than an hour to perform.

While there are a variety of different treatments offered under the umbrella of laser and radiofrequency skin rejuvenation procedures, they tend to fall into one of four categories: laser, ultrasound, radiofrequency and radiofrequency microneedling. Each works in slightly different ways.

Laser skin resurfacing treatments

Designed to improve the texture of the skin, laser resurfacing treatments mostly target the surface of the skin and the top layer of the dermis. Using controlled heat, these laser treatments gently remove the outermost layer of skin, revealing the fresh layer of skin underneath. Skin tone and tightness can also be improved, though this will depend on the specific laser treatment.

Ultrasound skin treatments

Ultrasound treatments are considered to be among the most effective options for achieving a significant skin lift without requiring surgery. While this technology is most widely associated with imaging during pregnancy, ultrasound energy can also be used to direct controlled heat at specific tissues. Because ultrasound energy is able to reach skin tissue at a greater depth than some other forms of skin treatment, it can often deliver more dramatic results.

This process stimulates the natural production of collagen and elastin within the skin, which can help your skin that look more youthful, but in a very natural way. Unlike a surgical lift, which removes and tightens loose skin, laser treatments rebuild the support structures underneath it, helping you regain a more youthful appearance without surgery.

Radiofrequency skin treatments

Radiofrequency skin treatments work in a similar manner to ultrasound therapy. A handheld device is used to heat the skin, using radiofrequency waves, but it does not reach the same depth. This means the results are not as profound and clients may require multiple sessions in order to achieve the desired effects.

Because it is unable to reach a significant depth, radiofrequency skin treatment is generally recommended for younger individuals who are looking to combat early signs of aging. This treatment also works well for those who are older but want to make small changes in their appearance. A variation on RF skin treatments includes fractional CO2 technology, which can help make the results of treatment more significant.

Radiofrequency microneedling

Radiofrequency microneedling is a combination procedure, bringing together the radiofrequency waves used in RF skin treatments and microneedling to maximize the final outcome. Microneedling creates microscopic channels, or holes, within your skin, which stimulates collagen production. In this specific combination procedure, radiofrequency waves are also emitted into the channels, boosting the results even further.

What makes these treatments so popular?

Newer forms of skin rejuvenation are steadily pushing out older methods. There are a lot of benefits to fractional CO2, ultrasound and RF skin treatments that continue to bolster the popularity of these skin treatments:

  • Their ability to not just change the surface of the skin, but its underlying support structures
  • Quick and simple appointments that are usually finished in under an hour
  • Minimal recovery time
  • Natural-looking and gradual changes in the skin, since collagen and elastin renewal occurs over time
  • Treatments can be used almost anywhere on the body to treat sagging skin, acne scars, sun damage and other common skin concerns

Individuals interested in achieving a more youthful appearance should speak with a plastic surgeon about whether or not laser and radiofrequency treatments could be the right solution for their specific needs and goals.

How can you get injectables without looking overdone?

injectables natural results

Injectables are an easy, effective and versatile way to lift, tighten and smooth the face. They can temporarily eliminate wrinkles in older patients and delay the appearance of fine lines in younger patients. These perks keep Botox and dermal fillers as the most popular noninvasive treatments in the United States.

So, if everyone wants the same thing out of their injectable treatments, to look younger and more refreshed, why do we still see those expressionless, cherub-cheeked women with unnaturally puffy lips? How can you get an injectable without the worry of looking fake, frozen or just plain overdone? Get started by doing your homework and making a plan.

Don’t go to just any provider

Only trust an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon with your appearance, including noninvasive treatments like injectables. For the most natural-looking and proportionate results, your injector will need to be highly-trained in facial anatomy and experienced with the wide variety of injectable products on the market.

This means that not every injector at your neighborhood medspa will meet these criteria. Nor will your dentist or gynecologist. There is often very little regulation over who gives these injections, so pay attention. To get your desired results, be safe and stick with a board-certified plastic surgeon’s office or a medispa they oversee.

Begin conservatively

A good way to find out how well you like the look of a particular injectable treatment is through a conservative first approach. Begin by having only one area treated, such as your crow’s feet or forehead lines, to see if the results live up to your expectations.

If your desired results are not quite met, more product can be added. Give Botox at least a week or two before making any decisions as it can take up to 14 days to see the full results. While fillers made with hyaluronic acid can be neutralized and reversed, most undesirable results will take months to wear off.

Avoid too good to be true pricing

Injectables are an economical way to rejuvenate your appearance without the large price tag of a surgical procedure. However, that does not mean they are cheap. When you are deciding where to go for your injectables, do not be swayed by a bargain-priced deal that feels too good to be true. Shifty injectors at pop-up clinics or unlicensed offices may be using counterfeit injectables to keep prices low and profits high. Unregulated products are extremely dangerous, not meeting the stiff standards of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

There are countless stories of women who saved money by going to an at-home injection party, only to receive bad products that result in damaged tissues, scarring and are sometimes even fatal. To look your best while protecting your health, skip the discounts and invest in the services of a board-certified plastic surgeon.

Look at before and after photographs

Pictures are the best way to judge the potential results of any cosmetic treatment. Look for before and after photographs of someone with a similar appearance, being treated for the same issue with injectables. If you are a 40-year-old woman with thinning lips, look for a similar patient and the results she was able to achieve with a specific lip filler.

Once you have established reasonable expectations for the results, turn your attention to your potential injector’s before and after pictures. This is a great way to judge a provider’s experience and ability with injectables like Botox or fillers. See if you like their personal style and artistic eye; perhaps you may think their patients look too unnatural for your taste.

Not many before and after photos available? This can mean the injector is inexperienced or does not have many happy patients willing to show off their results.

Speak up during your consultation

Meeting with your potential provider should not feel likes a sales pitch. A qualified, board-certified cosmetic surgeon will assess your skin and facial shape before going over all of your noninvasive options. He or she should explain what can be done to smooth wrinkles, fine lines and contour features while keeping up a natural-looking appearance.

Ask questions about your provider’s background and experience as well as what can be done if you are not happy with the results. These are important things that you must know before making your final decision to get injectables.

Stay close to home

Be extremely wary of booking an out-of-the-country cosmetic treatment holiday. While the price and the location may sound tempting, you may have no idea what you are walking into, and those low-price injectable and cosmetic procedures are likely dramatically less expensive for a reason. These clinics may not operate in the same sterile and sanitary conditions found at home, which compromises your safety and increases the risk of infections. These providers may not be required to work with the same rigorous level of credentialing required of ASPS members. If any problems do arise, your at-home provider may not know exactly how much of what product has been placed.

Choosing an injectable treatment

Today’s injectable treatments, from dermal fillers to Botox, are safer and more dependable than they have ever been. With a little research, you can ensure a satisfying injectable experience with natural-looking results. An experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon and their staff are your best defense against the dreaded frozen, overfilled appearance.

Traditional facelift vs noninvasive facelift

facelift surgical nonsurgical

When your face is beginning to show the signs of aging, you may want to consider undergoing a facelift procedure to turn back the hands of time.

However, the world of plastic surgery has changed considerably in the past decade, especially thanks to the development of fillers and other skin injections. That means some patients may not need the traditional facelift, in which incisions are made around the scalp line and the muscles are pulled back

So how do you know which facelift procedure is right for you – and what results can you expect? Take a look for yourself:

Traditional facelift

The traditional facelift is probably the most well-known type of facelift, as it’s been around for a few decades. This invasive cosmetic procedure is used to reposition the skin and muscles on the face and the neck, which helps improve the overall jawline. Your plastic surgeon can also “pull back” the skin on the face, which helps eliminate sagging muscles, as well as wrinkles and deep lines. They will also trim away excess skin to create a more youthful and refreshed look.

Some plastic surgeons perform endoscopic facelifts, which utilizes technological devices to minimize incisions as well as make the overall procedure less painful.

Patients may want to consider the traditional facelift if they have the following symptoms:

  • Sagging or loose jawlines
  • A large number of wrinkles and deep creases
  • Drooping or hooded eyes
  • Sagging facial muscles

Noninvasive facelift

For younger patients who might not need the traditional facelift procedure, a noninvasive facelift can provide youthful and restorative results without the need for incisions or anesthesia. The nonsurgical facelift incorporates facial fillers and skin injections to contour the jawline and provide volume to the cheeks, all while eliminating the look of wrinkles and fine lines. These results can last between one to two years, depending on the skin fillers utilized.

Patients may want to consider the noninvasive facelift if they have the following symptoms:

  • Loss of volume in the cheeks
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • The jawline is defined but could be contoured more

Starting your facelift journey

If you think that a traditional facelift or noninvasive facelift might be right for you and your aesthetic goals, be sure to meet with a board-certified plastic surgeon for a consultation. You can use the ASPS Plastic Surgeon Match referral service to find ASPS member surgeons in your area.

What is a breast lift and what are the benefits of this procedure?

breast lift benefits

A breast lift, medically know as a mastopexy, is a cosmetic plastic surgery procedure performed to rejuvenate breasts that have a somewhat saggy or droopy appearance and return them to a more youthful and attractive position.

This popular surgical procedure removes excess skin and tighten the surrounding tissue to create a more youthful breast contour. A lift can also reduce the size of the areolas if they have become enlarged over time.

Rejuvenating your breasts with a lift

Pregnancy, nursing, weight loss and previously having large, heavy breasts can all contribute to accelerating the aging process of the breasts and can cause premature or more excessive sagging.

Some women feel very self-conscious about the deflation of their breasts and wish to have a breast lift to restore their breasts to a more feminine and natural position. In most cases, the breast lift procedure also repositions the nipple and areolar placement to enhance the new breast appearance.

Adding breast augmentation to your lift

The breast lift procedure alone is not designed to enhance breast size, however, in most cases, only unneeded skin is removed and not breast tissue, so your breasts will appear fuller and more shapely as a result. Some women want to enhance their breast size along with the lift and so, in some cases, a combination of breast augmentation with a breast lift may be performed to achieve the desired results.

If you think you may want to add breast augmentation to your lift but aren’t sure how it would look, 3D photography may be able to assist. Many board-certified plastic surgeons utilize 3D photography and special software to assist with surgical planning and to simulate your desired outcome. This is an excellent way to envision how you would look after your procedure.

A breast lift in a mommy makeover

The term “mommy makeover” is used to describe a set of procedures commonly performed to rejuvenate a woman’s body after having children and breast lifting procedures are often recommended. A breast lift is a common procedure in a mommy makeover, and sometimes a lift is paired with breast augmentation to enhance the breast size while lifting them.

Raising a family and giving the majority of your attention to your children is a remarkable challenge as well as a privilege. If you feel that the time is right to allow yourself to focus on you, a breast lift may be just the ticket to a revitalized life!

Choosing a plastic surgeon for your breast lift

It is important to seek the opinion and expertise of a board-certified plastic surgeon in order to fully explore your goals and concerns to determine the best timing, procedure or procedures for returning your form to the youthful, feminine shape you desire and deserve.

Patience is important after your mommy makeover

patience is important after your mommy makeover

Motherhood is a beautiful experience. Yet, while mothers adore their children, they are often left feeling unhappy with the ways pregnancy and childbirth have changed their bodies.

Loss of volume in the breasts, sagging skin, stubborn fat and weak or separated abdominal muscles are often the results of having one or more children, driving many women to seek a mommy makeover as a solution. This customizable procedure has the ability to transform the way a woman feels about herself.

However, it is critical that patients understand what to expect after a mommy makeover – including some of the stranger things that happen.

“Mommy guilt” is real

Mothers are told to always put everyone else first, and in many cases, may even be actively shamed for prioritizing their appearance, as if spending money or time on themselves is wrong. Given that plastic surgery is a major investment in yourself, opting to get a mommy makeover can leave you feeling guilty. It is easy to picture where else that money could have gone and how it could have benefited the rest of the family.

Then there is the guilt over “vanity.” This can be especially hard on mothers with daughters, as it is easy to think that by getting a mommy makeover, you have failed to demonstrate the self-confidence you want your girls to have. Yet for many women, getting plastic surgery is what they need to engage in positive self-talk and demonstrate the self-love they want their children to develop.

Keep in mind that giving yourself what you need to be your best is actually an extremely important and valuable way to care for your family. A happy, confident mother is better able to raise happy, confident children.

You have to rest – and that might be hard

A mommy makeover, especially one that includes a tummy tuck, requires a lot of downtime. During this time, there is no running after toddlers or picking kids up. Even dressing and bathing them is off the table. Many mothers struggle with the idea of not trying to do it all.

When you have to ask for help and then sit and watch others do what feels like your job, it can be stressful. Many women find themselves jumping back into things too early and harming their recovery. Do not give in to this temptation, as you could easily injure yourself. Gear yourself up for this mentally and get comfortable with the idea of relying on others, at least for a few days so you have time to heal.

Things take a while to settle down

The results of a mommy makeover are not fully realized the instant you leave the recovery room. Right from the start, there will be bruising, swelling and discomfort, but this is a normal part of the recovery process. It often takes weeks to feel fully like yourself again, and several months before all bruising and swelling has dissipated.

But even when you keep this in mind, it can be easy to feel panic when your breasts look too large or your stomach seems lumpy after surgery. Try to keep in mind that the results are coming and you need to be patient until you are a good six weeks into your recovery to have a good sense of your mommy makeover results.

Numbness can play tricks with your brain

After surgery, numbness, itchiness and tingling are common side effects in the areas where you had surgery. You might feel itchiness on your abdomen and try to scratch it, only to find that you cannot relieve the sensation. For many women, this is one of the weirdest things that happen after a mommy makeover. These sensations are a sign that the nerves and blood vessels are healing. Fortunately, these symptoms should subside as you continue to heal.

There are highs and lows

We tend to frame surgery as a physical experience, but it is an emotional one too. From feeling tired, to the healing process, to the effects of pain medications, it is normal for women who’ve had a mommy makeover to experience a lot of emotional highs and lows. Be prepared for mood swings and teary moments, and make sure your family and caretakers are ready for it as well. Don’t be afraid to take a nap when the lows hit, as they might be a symptom of being overly tired.

You might have moments of “regret”

Once healing is completed and final results are visible after surgery, the vast majority of women are happy to have gone through with their surgery. But during the healing process, it is common to experience moments of regret. This can take the form of panic, especially when your initial results don’t exactly match up with the vision you had in mind.

As you struggle to deal with various aspects of recovery, you might feel remorse that you elected to have a procedure that is temporarily limiting you. There is also typically worry about whether or not this was truly the right choice.

Understand that temporary regret and worries are normal, and just as much a part of the healing process as incisions closing and scars fading. So long as you understand what to expect after a mommy makeover, you should get through it without much trouble and find that you very much enjoy the results.

Starting your mommy makeover journey

If you think that a mommy makeover might be right for you, be sure to meet with a board-certified plastic surgeon for a consultation. You can use the ASPS Plastic Surgeon Match referral service to find ASPS member surgeons in your area.

Want to go bigger or smaller? Maybe you need a breast implant exchange

breast implant exchange

Year after year, breast augmentation surgery ranks as one of the most popular aesthetic procedures in the world. This is thanks to its ability to completely transform a woman’s entire body as well as her sense of self.

While most patients are happy with their initial breast implants, for some, their bodies, as well as their aesthetic interests, change. If size is the main issue, going bigger or smaller with your breast implants can typically be easily achieved with a breast implant exchange.

Reasons for breast implant exchange

A dissatisfaction with the look of your initial breast implants, however, is only one of the many reasons why a patient may desire a breast implant exchange. Others include:

  • Changing aesthetic with age
  • Desire to switch from textured to smooth breast implants
  • Want to exchange the type of implant from saline to silicone
  • An issue with your breast implants such as capsular contracture
  • Need for a breast lift to address ptosis that may result from age, pregnancy and weight gain/loss

Furthermore, no breast implant lasts forever. Having said that, the old rule that a breast implant needs to be exchanged every decade is not clinically relevant. Assuming that you are happy with the look and feel of your breast implants and are experiencing no complications such as:

  • Swelling
  • Asymmetry
  • Malposition (implant has dropped out of position either below the inframammary fold or laterally towards the armpit)
  • Hardening of the capsule around the implant
  • Implant rupture

Breast implants can last for 10, 15, 20 years are longer. But if you are unhappy with the look of your breasts or suffering from a potential complication then it is time to schedule a breast implant exchange consultation.

Breast implant exchange consultation

The journey to your ideal breasts should always begin with an in-person consultation, preferably with a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon. Thanks to its ever-expanding popularity, there are a lot of surgeons performing breast augmentation procedures in this country. Finding one that is board certified is a simple way to separate out those of us with the rigorous training and expertise to deliver exemplary results. This is particularly important whenever you are considering any kind of revision surgery.

During your consultation, your plastic surgeon will listen closely to what bothers you about your breasts. It’s a good idea to bring in your original surgical report and information about your implants, if possible, as well as photos of the new “look” that are you are wanting to achieve. Your surgeon will then perform a thorough physical exam, taking careful measurements. Choosing the right size implant is part art, part science, so I’m always looking for that sweet spot between your desired outcome and the physical limitations of your anatomy. No matter how big you might want to go, the width of the base of the implant has to fit within your chest wall.

Breast implant exchange procedure

For some patients, a breast implant exchange is as simple as switching out one size or type of implant for another. I typically use the existing incision lines to make the exchange.

However, there are exceptions for some patients:

  • Exchange a larger implant for a smaller implant
  • Have developed ptosis with time
  • Had a too large implant initially that has stretched the skin & tissues of the breast

These patients may require a more complicated procedure. Any time that a foreign device is placed in the body whether it’s a new hip joint or a breast implant, a capsule of “scar” tissue forms around the device. This is simply the body’s way of healing.

In cases where a patient is downsizing her breast implant or where there is an issue with the capsule such as capsular contracture, the capsule will need to be removed. Otherwise, the new, smaller implant will not stay in position. Then, there are those patients whose breast skin and tissue have stretched.

Breast lift with breast implant exchange

Father Time exacts his toll on the skin everywhere. With age, your body produces less collagen and elastin. The first provides support for the skin while the latter provides “snap back.” Other changes may include:

  • Pregnancy
  • Breastfeeding
  • Weight gain/loss
  • Menopause

These can all cause the skin and tissues of the breast to stretch and sag. This, in turn, can cause your breast implants to move out of their initial position. The best solution for this scenario is to combine a breast lift with a breast implant exchange.

The lift allows me to reposition your nipple so that it’s centered on the chest before exchanging your old implants for newer ones. The end result is a perkier, more youthful-looking breast. Additionally, many patients find that their breast aesthetic changes with age. What looked great at 20 may feel too large at 40 or 50. A breast implant exchange with a breast lift is the perfect procedure for addressing all of your breast aging issues at once.

If you are unhappy with your breast implants, schedule a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon to discuss a breast implant exchange. It will have you looking and feeling your best in no time.

What is a labiaplasty and what does it involve?

what is a labiaplasty?

Even though plastic surgery is very common, very few people have heard about labiaplasty. You may have heard the name but may not have any idea what it is and which part of the body is involved.

Well, if you are here, then maybe you want an insight. Today we will give you some insight into labiaplasty and what it entails.

What is a labiaplasty?

A Google search may yield other terms like “vaginal rejuvenation” or “designer vagina,” however, the goal of this article is to first distinguish a labiaplasty from other forms of vaginal rejuvenation, then educate you on the actual labiaplasty procedure.

Vaginal rejuvenation is a broad term that encompasses a tremendous number of options for this ever-growing field of elective healthcare. New devices and treatments are entering the market almost every month, as more and more women are utilizing these treatments more frequently.

Therapies for “vaginal rejuvenation” typically include energy devices like lasers, radiofrequency and ultrasound just to name a few. Most vaginal rejuvenation procedures utilize some form of energy to accomplish a myriad of outcomes such as vaginal tightening, decreasing incontinence and eliminating vaginal dryness.

However, the FDA recently released a statement on these types of treatment, explaining that some of the manufacturers of these devices were not being totally transparent with the clinical claims of these devices.

The main difference between a labiaplasty and another treatment under the “vaginal rejuvenation” umbrella is a labiaplasty is a surgical procedure. The labiaplasty procedure aims to decrease the size of the labia minora (inner tissues of the female genitalia) so that it is flush with the labia majora (outer part of the female genitalia). This procedure involves utilizing several different surgical techniques depending on the patient’s specific situation. There are no energy devices required with a labiaplasty, and you will work with your plastic surgeon to determine the goals of your surgery.

Reasons for a labiaplasty

There are a host of reasons females have enlarged labia, including childbirth, aging, sexual activity and genetics. Females choose to have surgery for several reasons. First, there are several functional benefits when electing for a labiaplasty. Many females who suffer from an enlarged labia experience difficulty with exercise, hygiene, urinary tract infections, sexual activity and other physical activity.

Furthermore, with the increasing trend of wearing yoga pants, workout pants and swimming suits, an enlarged labium can make it difficult to wear such clothes. However, most female patients describe feeling extremely self-conscious when becoming romantically involved with their partners. These reasons and others are what females consider when choosing a labiaplasty.

Labiaplasty procedures

Initially, there was a single procedure for labiaplasty, and it was very popular as well. With the change of time and advancement in techniques, several techniques have evolved. Some of them are as follows:

Trim procedure

It is the original technique and is most natural to perform. It is also the most widely used technique used by surgeons. In this procedure, the excess part of labia minora is removed and sutured so that it is symmetrical with the labia majora.

Wedge procedure

In this procedure, a partial thickness wedge is removed from the thickest part of the labia minora. The submucosa (layer tissue beneath a mucous membrane) must be left intact by removing only a partial thickness. This procedure gives the vagina a natural look after the surgery as well, preserving the wrinkled edges.

There are several other techniques for reducing the labia minora, and all these techniques have certain advantages and disadvantages. If you are considering a labiaplasty, the key to ensure appropriate outcomes is to make sure you are going to a board-certified plastic surgeon that specializes in this procedure.

Anesthesia for a labiaplasty

Labiaplasty is an outpatient surgery. The procedure can be performed within an hour, either individually or with other cosmetic surgery. It can be performed under local anesthesia or general anesthesia, depending on the treatment plan discussed with your plastic surgeon.

Postsurgical care

The genital region of females is very sensitive and requires proper care in general. So, when undertaking a procedure like a labiaplasty, there are some post-operative instructions you need to be aware of before having the procedure.

You should avoid long showers and should pat the wound dry every time after washing. The antibiotics prescribed by the surgeon should be taken to reduce pain and inflammation, which can be present after the procedure Riding bikes, running and other physical activities will need to be avoided until you have been released by your plastic surgeon. Premature return to the activities can exert pressure on the wound and will unnecessarily delay the healing process.
